These courses
train participants to respond to emergencies in settings
where immediate medical care is not available--including
urban, rural and wilderness medical emergencies, as well
as disaster situations such as earthquakes, tsunamis,
terrorist attacks, and similar emergencies.
These courses are ideal for development and relief workers, educators, NGO workers in remote settings, adventure travel professionals, group leaders and anyone who might be in a situation--urban, rural or wilderness--where emergency medical care may not be immediately available. The courses will be taught by the Wilderness Medicine Institute of the National Outdoor Leadership School (WMI), USA, and sponsored by the International Sustainable Development Studies Institute (ISDSI). Two WMI instructors will be flying to Thailand specifically for these courses. | ||
Wilderness First Responder (WFR) -- 80 Hours January 20, 2009 to January 29, 2009 Course Fee: $650 (US$), includes lunch The curriculum includes standards for urban and extended care situations. Special topics include but are not limited to: wound management and infection, realigning fractures and dislocations, improvised splinting techniques, patient monitoring and long term management problems, up-to-date information on all environmental emergencies, plus advice on drug therapies. Emphasis is placed on judgement and decision-making, not the memorization of lists. This course is designed specifically to provide you with the tools to make critical medical and evacuation decisions in remote locations. Half of your time will be spent completing practical skills, case studies and scenarios designed to challenge your decision making abilities. The WMI Adult & Child CPR is included in this course. | ||
Wilderness First Aid + CPR (WFA) -- 24 HoursFebruary 02, 2009 to February 04, 2009 Course Fee: $250 (US$), includes lunch If you plan to spend time in the backcountry you need to be prepared. Fast paced and hands-on, this three-day course covers a wide range of wilderness medicine topics for people who travel and work in the outdoors. This course is pre-approved by such organizations as: the American Camping Association, the United States Forest Service, and other governmental agencies. It may also be used for wilderness medicine recertification by those with previous training. | ||
