Field Instructor Position
The International Sustainable Development Studies Institute (ISDSI) is based in Chiang Mai, and is an internationally recognized leader in study abroad, expedition-based experiential education and sustainable development studies. ISDSI courses take place throughout Thailand with local communities and activists. See www.isdsi.org for more information.
ISDSI currently is looking to recruit additional field instructors. Field instructors will be working with a team of instructors leading American college and university students on Expedition Field Courses (EFCs). Please see www.isdsi.org/courses/ for more information on our courses. Field instructors have to be self motivated, able to thrive in challenging field conditions, work well together with colleagues and students, and enjoy living and working in sometimes difficult conditions.
Job requirements:
1. Thai national
2. University graduate (BA or MA level). A degree in the social sciences or natural sciences is a plus.
3. Excellent Thai and English language skills. Ability to speak regional dialects and/or tribal languages a plus.
4. Excellent understanding of sustainable development issues, environmental issues, community organizing and activism.
5. Proven interest and competency in the outdoors, such as rock climbing, sea kayaking, backpacking, camping, canoeing, skin diving, or related activities.
6. Experience managing a budget and ability to work independently.
7. Proven experience working with local people and local communities on issues related to sustainability, community self reliance and related issues. This would include working or volunteering with an NGO, community group, or similar.
Salary based on experience.
